Location sound recording can be challenging
It's true - Recording sound on location isn't easy but we've travelled the world working on large scale reality shows, nature documentaries, mockumentaries, cooking and lifestyle shows, corporate events and activations. You name it we've done it. The brain behind Creative Kicks is Mike Jaballah - A Melbourne based location sound recordist and sound mixer who has the experience and knowledge in how to achieve the best sound possible in all situations, saving you time and money in post production and ADR. Let's face it, everyone says "just fix it in post" when in reality this is a very costly and time consuming exercise. Whether you're recording a film outdoors, live performance in a venue, recording in a studio or overcoming the constant challenges of recording sound on location for TV, a documentary or an interview, Mike's mastered the art of recording and mixing in the field. |
We're aimed at solutions
When you're taking on the elements, external factors and noise such as weather, planes, animals and people can make it difficult to to achieve the most natural clean sound possible. Ambient noise is rarely avoidable, but is manageable and at Creative Kicks Media we know how important it is to approach things with a level head and the right attitude to achieve the best outcome possible. We know we can't be stopping for every creak, rumble and thud but that's OK. We are available for consultation from concept creation to execution, to lend a hand with advice on shooting locations, attending location recce's, identifying potential issues and what will and won't work. |
The right tools for the job
Mike can run up to 8 channels of wireless in his compact rig (as pictured below) and up to 48 channels in total. We only use broadcast quality equipment, with preferred partners such as Sound Devices, Allen & Heath, Sanken, Schoeps, DPA, Shure, Lectrosonics, Sennheiser and Rycote. This means our standards are top notch and we've got the best to give you the best in all situations. Additionally, we've invested in Sound Devices NoiseAssist. If you haven't heard of it, NoiseAssist is a massive advancement in audio recording tech which suppresses background noise instantly. It's like putting noise cancelling headphones on our mics and is perfect for dealing with those not so ideal locations. When on set and rolling sound, the name of the game is back ups, back ups, back ups. A massive advocate of being over prepared and then going with the flow, we ALWAYS ensure THREE redundant recordings are recording as a back up, to avoid those "uh-oh" moments. Mike's never lost a take and he doesn't intend to any time soon. |
We do it for the love
Most importantly of all Mike know's the importance of passion, dedication and positive disposition on set. Because we love it, we hope our happiness we love the feeling of infectious positivity.
