BOND, ID AND INSURANCE
We can't hand equipment over until the required identity and security checks are done, no exceptions. What you need depends on the gear, the booking value, the hire period, the location and how it's getting transported.
Security bonds and card holds
A security bond or card hold applies to equipment hires. The minimum is $200.
It can go up depending on:
- Equipment value
- Equipment type
- Hire duration
- Delivery or freight arrangements
- Hire location
- Previous hire history
- Assessed booking risk
You'll see the exact amount in your booking, or we'll confirm it with you, before anything leaves us.
What's a card hold?
A card hold will temporarily reserve an amount on your payment card. It's not a payment, we only capture some or all of it if you owe something under the hire agreement.
Your bank may reduce your available balance while the hold is active.
When is it released?
We check the equipment after it's returned. Any amount not payable will be released or refunded promptly once:
- The equipment has been checked in
- Missing items have been accounted for
- Any required testing is complete
- Any necessary damage or cleaning assessment has been completed
Your card provider may take additional time to update your available balance.
The bond doesn't cap your responsibility
The bond is security against amounts that may become payable. It's not the maximum you may be responsible for.
If the valid cost of late return, cleaning, missing equipment, repair, replacement or loss exceeds the bond, we may charge the supplied payment method where permitted or issue an invoice. You'll get a written explanation and available supporting material, we're not going to just take money and leave you guessing why.
ID requirements: the 100 point check
Whoever's responsible for the booking must be at least 18 and clear a 100 point identification check, the same style of check banks and government services use. You need at least one primary document, then make up the rest with secondary documents until you reach 100 points total.
Foreign documents need an official translation before they count.
Primary documents (at least one required)
- Australian passport, current, not expired or cancelled, 70 points
- Australian driver licence or learner's permit, front and back, 40 points
- Current Australian tertiary student ID card, 40 points
Secondary documents
- Utility bill, electricity, gas or telephone, current address, less than 3 months old, 20 points
- Bank statement showing transactions, less than 3 months old, 25 points
- Credit card or account card, 25 points
- Medicare card, 25 points
- Property lease agreement, current address, 25 points
- Taxation assessment notice, 25 points
The name and address on your documents need to match your booking, unless we approve another arrangement.
How to submit ID
Right after you book, we'll send you an ID Verification Form to complete online. Upload your primary documents and secondary documents there, jpg, png or pdf, 5MB max per file.
If you can't reach 100 points, tell us as soon as possible. It protects your booking, an incomplete form puts it at risk of being cancelled.
We handle personal information in line with applicable privacy laws and our published Privacy Policy. Documents may be used for identity verification, address verification, fraud prevention, booking administration, insurance or legal requirements, or resolving a loss, damage or payment dispute.
Authorised collectors
Someone else may collect the equipment when we've approved them in advance. The collector may need to provide their own photo identification.
The person or business named on the booking remains responsible for the equipment unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Our insurance
We maintain insurance that may respond while equipment is on dry hire. Any response remains subject to the insurance policy, its exclusions, our security requirements, the circumstances of the incident, and the current applicable excess.
Our current Equipment Hire Schedule sets that excess at $1,000.
You can't require us to make an insurance claim. We'll decide whether a claim is appropriate, acting reasonably and in line with the policy, not just whatever's cheapest for us.
Your own insurance
It's worth getting your own cover if the gear's high value, the job's higher risk or the location makes you a bit nervous. Name us as an interested party on your policy.
Ask your broker whether your existing business, production or event policy already covers hired equipment.

WE OFFER AN OPTIONAL DAMAGE WAIVER
It's a contractual limitation of liability, not an insurance policy. It doesn't make you an insured person, and it only applies when you select and pay for it before your hire period begins.
