RODE NTG3 hire in Melbourne. An Australian made shotgun microphone that shrugs off rain, humidity and cold mornings and sounds right at home next to a 416.
Most shotgun bookings are for a Sennheiser MKH416 and the NTG3 is the mic RODE built to go head to head with it. It's an RF bias condenser like the 416, which is why it keeps working with the dew and moisture on an early call and other condensers start to crackle. Supercardioid pickup reaches for the voice and rejects what's off to the side, and the self noise is very low, so quiet dialogue and room tone stay clean. Designed and built by RODE in Sydney and tough enough for years of boom work.
We run two of them alongside our 416s on exterior dialogue, documentary and camera top work. For most jobs you could swap one for the other and the editor would never know, so the NTG3 is a good call when every 416 in town is booked.
Good for: exterior dialogue, documentary, interviews, news and run and gun, camera top mounting, reality, voiceover and wet or humid shoots.
Good to know: Booming outside? Add a windshield when you book, because foam alone won't survive a Melbourne breeze. We have two, so book early if you need a pair.
