MixPre Podcast Package hire in Melbourne. Two Shure SM7Bs, a Sound Devices MixPre 6 II, headphones, arms and every lead, for podcasters who want each voice on its own track and a recorder that never clips.

Same mics and arms as our RODECaster package, different brain. The MixPre 6 II is a field recorder, not a desk, so it records every mic to its own track as 32 bit float. A guest who laughs straight into the mic doesn’t clip, and a host who mumbles comes up clean in the edit. Four XLR inputs, Kashmir preamps with gain to spare, timecode in and out for lining up with cameras, and it runs off USB or AA batteries so you can record where there’s no power point. A Cloudlifter CL-2 keeps the SM7Bs out of the top of the gain range, two RODE PSA1 arms hold the mics where you put them, and two pairs of Audio Technica headphones mean both hosts hear what the listener will.

Pick this one over the RODECaster if you edit in a DAW, you’re filming with more than one camera, or you’re recording somewhere without power. Pick the RODECaster if you want sound pads, a touchscreen and an episode that’s basically done when you stop recording.

Good for: two person podcasts cut in a DAW, interview shows filmed on two or three cameras, documentary style conversations, voiceover days and anyone who already knows their way around a Sound Devices recorder.
